How to apply
Only applications that are complete and submitted on time will be considered. Applications can be submitted via our online mobility portal.

Application deadlines:
- 15 November for stays between January and July of the following year
- 15 May for stays between August and December of the same year
Application materials for periods of study abroad, internships, courses relevant to your degree programme and language courses
- Information on other scholarships you receive and, when applicable, documents attesting to that you are a part of an equal opportunities target group (e.g. declaration of honour for students from a non-academic background, medical certificate attesting to a disability, etc.)
- Valid certificate of enrolment or certificate showing you are admitted to a Master's programme
- CV
- Transcript of records (from LSF or another official transcript), including Bachelor's degree certificate for applicants in their Master's
- Detailed personal statement (1-2 pages)
- Letter of recommendation (can be sent directly to outgoing(at)uni-saarland.de)
- Current proof of language proficiency in the local language, language of instruction, or working language (max. 12 months old) Proof of language proficiency can be submitted in the form of a standardized language test (IELTS, DELF, UNICERT etc.) or a Saarland University language instructor can attest to your language proficiency (for example, an instructor from the Language Centre) At least CEFR level B2 (for language courses A2)
- Proof of admission or proof of enrolment
- Period of study abroad: Proof of admission or a letter of invitation/nomination at the partner university/learning agreement. If your period of study abroad is required for your final thesis, please also submit a Confirmation of Thesis Topic Assignment.
- Internships: Confirmation from the company or institution where you will do your internship, including the type of work you will perform, length of the internship, hours per week and remuneration (if applicable)
- Courses relevant to your degree programme: Proof of enrolment in the short-term course, including a description of the course curriculum, length of the course and proof of payment of the tuition fee (if applicable)
- Language course: Proof of enrolment in the language course, a description of the course curriculum, length of the course and proof of payment of the tuition fee (if applicable)
- Certificate of Arrival – please let a representative of your host university or institution sign your certificate of arrival and upload it in the MoveOn portal under 'Follow-up form Updating my Mobility Information' in the 'Updates to my mobility' section.
Applying for study trips or competition-related travel
Complete and on-time application materials must be submitted per email to outgoing(at)uni-saarland.de by the coordinator responsible for the trip.
Application materials for competition-related travel
- Document containing the trip coordinator's contact details, the goals of the trip, an explanation of the competition's relevance for the participants, the schedule and the exact travel dates
- An official letter of support from the relevant academic department and a professor
- A copy of the list of registered or invited participants
- Participant list
Application materials for study trips
- Participant list
- Purpose of the trip and detailed description of the programme (planned visits, activities and seminars, etc.)
- Detailed timetable
- Explanation of how students will be prepared for the trip (for example through a seminar at Saarland University)
- List of anticipated costs
- Proof of contact with partners at the destination (such as email exchanges)
After your travels
What documents need to be submitted at the end of your stay?
Please submit a testimonial on your stay at the latest two months after returning. The report serves as proof that the time abroad fulfilled the goals laid out in your application. If applicable, please also submit a confirmation of participation (such as a certificate confirming your internship was completed) and/or your transcript of records to mobility(at)uni-saarland.de. You can use the template for testimonials and, if applicable, complete the publication consent form. Both documents can be turned in to the International Office.
