Alexander Demmer

My time at Saarland University was wonderful – especially the courses offered, the people I met and the extracurriculars. The university has a lot to offer outside of normal classes – I learned Spanish and even learned how to ski and surf at the University Sports Center.

At the end of the 1970s, computer science was at the interface of theoretical mathematics and engineering, making it the perfect subject for me. I built meaningful relationships to people I still keep in contact with today.

The state of Saarland is small, as is the university, which is exactly what makes it special. It's a great place to return to, even now, after forty years.

  • Degree programme: Computer Science
  • Next step after graduating: I am retired and have started a consulting business that provides expertise in digitalization in medium-sized businesses, the energy transition and projects that support a prosperous society in the long term.
