Saarland University's campus, which is just a stone's throw away from the city centre, makes student life top tier. Almost all departments are on campus, which means you quickly get to know people who study lots of different subjects. The German and international students don't just bring the campus to life, but also Saarbrücken's city centre, transforming a small state capital into a young, cosmopolitan city in the heart of Europe (only two hours away from Paris, three from Brussels, two from Frankfurt, one from Luxembourg, three from Cologne, etc).
I know from experience that Saarland University is very supportive when it comes to going abroad. The International Office does a great job and made it possible for me to spend time abroad in Groningen in the Netherlands and Sydney, Australia. I personally really enjoyed being in a 'small' study programme (with about 20 students per year). It allowed me the opportunity to network with classmates, professors and partners in the industry, opening doors for me in a way that might not have been possible at a larger university.
I wouldn't trade the friends I have made or the experiences I have had for the world and I would recommend studying at Saarland University to anyone.
