Welcome!
The International Study Centre Saar (ISZ Saar) is a central institution at Saarland University that helps international applicants prepare to study at the university. We also provide international students with ongoing support during their studies by offering in-sessional courses designed to ensure that they have the skills to make a success of their chosen academic programme.
At ISZ Saar you can:
- take an intensive German language course to prepare for the DSH language proficiency test. (Prerequisite: a recognized higher education entrance qualification from your home country in accordance with the relevant anabin guidelines),
- join the international foundation programme (VSi MINT), which, if completed successfully, will enable you to automatically progress to the STEM Bachelor's degree programme BachelorPlus MINT at Saarland University. (Prerequisite: a school leaving certificate that has received a ‘higher education assessment test’ rating from anabin, which means that you will need to take a separate academic assessment test (FSP) before starting a degree programme),
- take in-sessional German language courses either to acquire the language skills you need to achieve your potential in your academic studies, or to earn elective credits, or, if you are an Erasmus or other exchange student, to simply improve your proficiency in German,
- attend one of our pre-sessional short intensive courses in German as a foreign language (‘Erasmus courses’) to help you study successfully during the coming semester,
- take one of our specialist German language courses for doctoral students,
- learn German from the beginner level upwards and practice it in German courses for university staff,
- join the tandem language exchange programme that ISZ Saar runs in cooperation with the Welcome Center and the university’s Language Centre (SZSB),
- register for one of the courses and workshops in the field of international academic culture (Wissenschaft und Wissenschaftskulturen international).
Tandem language exchange programme
The tandem programme pairs up people with different native languages who are interested in learning the language of their tandem partner. The programme is open to students, university employees and, if enough places are available, to members of the public.
