Microsoft Teams: What is it and what can I use it for?

The central hub for teamwork in Office 365

Microsoft Teams provides a chat-based workspace for teams to communicate and collaborate. You can create your own teams and add members to your team.

You can organize a team into different channels, to which you can then add the required content, such as a wiki, files or third-party services.
Microsoft Teams allows you to conduct video and audio conferences, collaborate on files and documents and send and receive chat messages.

Microsoft Teams also runs on mobile devices.

Software rollout across Saarland University

Saarland University has organized access to Microsoft Teams for all members of the university via their personal HIZ (UdS) account (information of April 2020). Users can sign in to Teams using their existing username and password.
Please note that you must use the full username, i.e. the HIZ (UdS) ID code together with the ending ‘@uni-saarland.de’. For example: for Maria Mustermann, whose UdS ID code is ‘mamu003’, the full username would be mamu003@uni-saarland.de.

Microsoft Teams can be used in a web browser environment at https://teams.microsoft.com , where you can also download the Teams app (currently available for Windows, MacOS and Linux).

Apps for smartphones and tablets can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store (for iOS devices) or from the Google Play store (for Android devices).

If using Microsoft Teams in a browser, we recommend using current versions of Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.

All users are asked to become acquainted with the software and its functionality.

If you have problems signing in, please report your problem to the staff at HIZ using the ticketing system.
