Welcome to the English Section

The academic staff of the English Section are responsible for the German/English translation classes offered as part of the BA Language Science programme (WP4: Translation) as well as for the German/English courses (Übersetzen, Fachkommunikation schriftlich und mündlich) provided in the MA Translation Science and Technology curriculum. They also offer courses for Erasmus students.

B.A. Language Science

Information for Students of B.A. Language Science

The prerequisite for the bachelor's degree programme in Language Science is an entry level of at least level B2 in English (cf. specifications of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

The Translation elective includes the following courses, which focus on practical translation from English into German or from German into English:

  • Methodik des Übersetzens unter Verwendung von Tools: The focus is on the practical implementation of language and cultural comparison in translation, developing  research and problem-solving strategies, including digital resources.
  • Übersetzen BI (Englisch): This module comprises the exercises "Übersetzen im gemeinsprachlichen Kulturtransfer in BI" and "Textproduktion im Übersetzungsprozess in BI". Students work out strategies for the transfer of language and culture on the basis of concrete text examples and deal with fundamental translation-related issues.

Our innovative B.A. Language Science and M.A. Translation Science and Technology programmes will qualify you to become a Translator of the future. You can of course also study our advanced MA Translation Science and Technology with a suitable different BA degree under your belt.
