There are two things I would like to highlight about Saarland University: the organization as well as the welcoming environment for Erasmus students.
When I arrived in Saarbrücken, I could barely speak a word of German. But by the time I left, I had greatly improved my German level by taking several German courses. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated teaching staff who stood by my side, especially during difficult moments.
Like the German lessons, my courses at the Faculty of Law were also well organized. There were courses and exams specifically for Erasmus students, which I found very touching.
And did I feel welcome here in Saarbrücken? For me, Saarland University felt like home. One thing that contributed to that feeling was the Centre for International Students, which plans monthly activities and excursions in and outside of Saarland that I thought were really lovely. I still keep in touch with many of the wonderful people that I met through these events.
I have so many nice memories from my time in Saarbrücken that I am not even sure where I should start. Something that comes to mind is the image of the smiling faces that greeted me in the hallway when I arrived–once again–to sign up for every possible Centre for International Students event.
Since I was always taking part in events, I was known not only by the students but also by the staff. I don’t know if you will also find this type of warmth at other universities. But in Saarbrücken, the feeling is everywhere and it is a pillar of Saarland University’s identity that I won't ever forget.
