Grassroots

Grassroots Initiative: Accountable Control

Description

Feedback systems have been studied extensively in the control community and the benefits of feedback for the design of stable, robust and reliable technological systems are well understood. With the ubiquity of computing devices in modern technological systems, the design of feedback loops becomes more and more complex. The main challenge in the analysis of the resulting feedback systems stems from the tight integration of physical dynamics and discrete (cyber) computation units, which lead to cyber-physical feedback systems. The aim of this project is to ensure accountability of cyber-physical feedback systems by studying the interplay of optimization-based trajectory generation and logical disturbances with discrete decision making at the highest layer of the control hierarchy.
