Intensive German language course in March
Intensive language courses "German as a foreign language" in March and September
Every March and September, we offer four-week short-term intensive courses. Exchange students (e.g., Erasmus) who wish to prepare for their upcoming study abroad are just as welcome as students regularly enrolled at Saarland University (e.g., students in English-language degree programs) who would like to improve their German during the break between semesters. As in the regular semester courses, the lessons focus on topics that are specifically relevant to the participants’ daily lives, including study-related topics. To participate, students must have fully achieved at least language level A1.1. Beginners are not admitted.
Please note: If you are a student at another university, you can apply for a place, but you will initially be placed on the waiting list.
Proficiency levels (CEFR scale)
A1.2 to B2/C1 (courses are therefore not suitable for absolute beginners!)
It is not possible to apply for a specific language level. The levels of the courses held always depend on the level of knowledge of the respective course participants. Placement in the groups is made according to the results of our placement test.
Course fees
- 180 Euro for programme students of the UdS (Erasmus+, other exchange programms)
- 300 Euro for all other participants
Participants who have to pay course fees will receive an email after registration with the bank account information and indication of the payment deadline.

The admission/classification into the courses will be communicated to you by e-mail.

Duration of courses
Tuesday, 03 March 2026 – Friday, 27 March 2026
The course takes place in presence format on the Saarbrücken campus.
Placement test obligatory
A placement test must be passed online before admission to the courses. You will receive the link to the placement test after registration.
Take the test in the time period: Monday, 23 February 2026, 10 a.m. - Tuesday, 24 February 2026, 10 a.m.
The placement test must be taken online and must be completed by Tuesday, 24 February 2026, 10 a.m. (deadline) at the latest. Start in time!
