Guide to the TAS Holdings of the IB

Key to TAS Holdings

In categorizing study materials for Transcultural Anglophone Studies, national boundaries have played less of a role than regional commonalities in grouping together the post-colonies; the work of ethnic minority writers demands the inclusion of Britain and North America, while the fact that South Asia and its diasporas form the chief area of research for TAS in Saarbrücken means that this category subsumes the other regional categories in bringing together thematically-related texts which would otherwise have been scattered owing to area considerations.

In keeping with these directives, texts have been catalogued in accordance with either the location and/or the cultural identification of the Anglophone transcultural writers being studied at Saarland University.

The following abbreviations are in use for categorizing TAS materials, also in the departmental library:

AFR African writers
  • East Africa: Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia
  • Southern Africa: Botswana, Lesotho, Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe
  • West Africa: Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone
CARCaribbean writers: Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago
