Transform4Europe Strategic Assembly at Saarland University

Strategic Assembly

From Monday, 17th October to Wednesday, 19th October 2022, Saarland University will host the annual Transform4Europe Strategic Assembly at the University Campus in Saarbrücken. The event constitutes a platform for exchange and discussion among all groups involved in the Transform4Europe University Alliance – students, academic and non-academic staff, the university managements and external stakeholders. Meetings of the institutional bodies of the Alliance and of different expert groups will afford the opportunity to discuss strategic questions, develop new ideas and enhance our network.

“Transforming Europe – How European University Alliances shape Europe’s future”: This will be the focus of a policy conference on Monday, 17th October. European experts from various fields will discuss the topics of transformation in individuals, institutions and regions in a roundtable and in different workshops.

On Tuesday, 18th October meetings of the governing boards and of expert groups of the T4EU Alliance will be held. Management Board meetings and a Student Council meeting are scheduled for Wednesday, 19th October. Please find here a draft of our agenda. Once the registration period is over, registered participants will receive the final version of the agenda.

Important Information for the participants

Workshops

Universities play an important role in shaping the future of Europe. As actors of change, they will help face the challenges of profound transformation processes like digital transformation, aging societies and climate change. The European University Alliances, by pioneering new models of deep institutional cooperation, are driving transformation processes in their institutions as well as in their individual members and surrounding regions.

In three parallel workshops, we will discuss challenges and best practices of:

  1. Transformation in Individuals
How do we shape and strengthen European identities?
How do we educate knowledge entrepreneurs? What skills do they need?
What is the role of international cooperation and mobility?
  2. Transformation in Institutions
How do we mainstream internationalisation, and how does that effect internal structures and procedures?
How can we guarantee student involvement?
How do we have to adapt infrastructures for European campuses?
  3. Transformation in Regions
How do we achieve co-creation with non-academic stakeholders?
How do we network our respective regions throughout Europe?

Please use the registration form below to inform us about the workshop you would like to take part.

Meet your colleagues activities

We want to make sure you can best use the assembly to get in contact with your colleagues. On Tuesday, 18th October, an easily accessible room will be at your disposition to meet colleagues from partner universities – either spontaneously or on appointment. For the latter, please let us know beforehand with whom you wish to get in contact, so that we can help you organise a meeting.

Travel and accommodation in Saarbrücken

Saarbrücken is the capital and largest city of the state of Saarland, Germany, next to the French border.

How to get to Saarbrücken

If you prefer green mobility, you can reach Saarbrücken Main Station (Saarbrücken Hbf) from your destination. From there you can walk and/or take public transport to the hotels below. There is also a taxi rank outside the station. There are two airports that usually have the best connections for international flights: Frankfurt Airport and Luxembourg Airport. Saarbrücken has a small airport and flights and destinations are very limited. If you are flying to and/or from Frankfurt Airport, the easiest way to get to Saarbrücken is to take the train. There are two stations at the airport itself: one for regional trains and one for high-speed trains. Both stations have trains to Saarbrücken depending on the time of day. To find out which train you can take, you can check on the website of the German railway network: Deutsche Bahn

If you land in Luxembourg, you will need to take a bus from the airport to the Luxembourg train station (remember that public transport within Luxembourg city is for free). From the train station you can take the CFL-Express Bus to Saarbrücken. Buses run regularly, you can check the frequency in the timetable. Bus tickets to Saarbrücken can be bought directly on the bus.

If you have any questions regarding your trip to Saarbrücken, please do not hesitate to contact us! Additional information on how to get to Saarland University can be found in this overview.
