Schultag 2023

On 10 May 2023, we once again welcomed high school students to the Europa-Institut as part of the Jean Monnet School Day. At the invitation of the Jean Monnet Chair of International Dispute Resolution and Rule of Law of Prof. Dr. Marc Bungenberg and in cooperation with the European Documentation Centre Saarland and the Europa-Institut, 4 workshops were offered on the topic of "The Ukraine War and the EU".

Pupils from the TWG Dillingen, BBZ Sulzbach and Marie-Louise Kaschnitz-Gymnasium dealt with the main topics "Flight from Ukraine to Europe", "International Sanctions against Russia", "EU Accession of Ukraine?" as well as "International Criminal Prosecution of Putin" and also participated in a future-oriented discussion on the topic of Europe.

The welcoming address was given by Dr Jens Diener, State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice.

Testimonials

"Many people living in Europe may not be aware of what is happening around them politically. I, too, often find it difficult to connect with political issues. That's why I'm glad to be able to take part in events like the Europe Day at the Europa-Institut of Saarland University and to gain interesting insights into European politics with the support of the staff of Prof. Dr. Marc Bungenberg's Jean Monnet Chair.

Being born in 2002, I only know the Europe of today and cannot imagine my environment without the benefits it brings. As an almost exclusive online shopper, I appreciate being able to order online throughout Europe without restrictions. Furthermore, I have never had to worry about a visa or any border controls or waiting times in connection with them when planning a holiday.

I was very happy to take part in Europe Day and also to get to know the Europa-Institut library with the European Documentation Centre."

"The offer to come to Saarland University as part of the Jean Monnet School Day is particularly important for introducing pupils to knowledge and topics that they would otherwise not have dealt with. The workshops offered at the event provide a good opportunity for further education and to ask questions directly if something is unclear. Overall, I found the event very enjoyable and would not mind if such an event were to take place more often. Within Europe, there are still many topics to educate about."
