Data protection and privacy
Data protection: You will be sent a link by email after you have subscribed. Please click the link to confirm that you wish to subscribe. Our newsletter contains information about the services we offer, our events and our partners and is published once or twice a semester. The information provided below covers the content we include in our newsletter, the subscription, distribution and statistical analysis procedures used and your right to object. By subscribing, you are giving your consent to receive the newsletter and to the procedures as described.
PLEASE NOTE: This translation is provided for information purposes only. In the event of any discrepancies between the translation and the original German version, the latter shall take precedence.
The mailing service provider may use recipient data in pseudonymized form (i.e. in a form that does not allow individuals to be identified) in order to optimize or improve its own services, e.g. technical optimization of the dispatch process or the presentation of the newsletter, or for statistical purposes. However, the mailing service provider will not use such data to write to the recipients of our newsletter or to pass such data on to third parties.
Content of the newsletter: We only send newsletters, emails and other electronic communications containing promotional information (hereafter 'newsletter') if we have the consent of the recipients or we are legally entitled to do so. User consent is based to a significant degree on the description of the newsletter content that was provided as part of the subscription process. Our newsletters also contain information about us and the services we provide.
Double opt-in and data recording: We use a double opt-in procedure for obtaining your consent when you subscribe to our newsletter. Once we have received your subscription request,we will send you an email asking you to confirm your wish to be added to our mailing list. Confirmation is necessary to prevent someone else from using your email address to subscribe to the newsletter without your consent. We keep a record of newsletter subscription requests so that we can prove that the sign-up process complied with the relevant legal requirements. The data recorded and stored includes the time you signed up, the time you confirmed your subscription and your IP (internet protocol) address. A record is also kept of any changes to your data stored at the mailing service provider.
Registration data: To sign up for the newsletter, all you need to do is enter your email address. If you wish, you can also specify your department, which we will record for statistical purposes.
The legal basis for sending the newsletter and for tracking newsletter performance metrics is Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 7 GDPR in conjunction with Sec. 7(2)(3) of Germany's Unfair Competition Act (UWG), or, in cases where consent is not required, the legal basis is provided by our legitimate interest to engage in direct marketing activities in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in conjunction with Sec. 7(3) UWG.
The subscription request process is recorded on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) to provide a user-friendly and secure newsletter system that allows us to pursue our commercial interests, to meet our customers’ expectations and to establish proof of our user’s consent to receive newsletters.
Unsubscribing/Withdrawing consent – You may unsubscribe from our newsletter by withdrawing your consent at any time. An unsubscribe link is provided at the bottom of each newsletter. On the basis of our legitimate interests, we may store the email addresses of unsubscribed recipients for up to three years before deleting them in order to be able to demonstrate that they had previously provided consent. Any processing of such data will be limited to that necessary to defend against possible legal claims. You may request the erasure of your personal data at any time provided that at the time of your request your previous consent can be confirmed.
