What is a serious game?

A serious game is a digital game that goes beyond pure entertainment and specifically pursues educational, training or sensitisation purposes. It combines playful elements with didactic content to impart knowledge, promote problem-solving skills or initiate changes in behaviour.

The benefit of serious games lies in their interactive and motivating nature:

  • They enable effective learning through experience and active involvement.
  • They promote critical thinking, decision-making and teamwork.
  • They make complex topics tangible and understandable.
  • They increase learning motivation and efficiency through playful challenges.

Serious games are used in education, business, medicine and research to support practical learning and training.
