Intensive German language course in October
Intensive language courses "German as a foreign language" in March, September and October
Each year in March, September and October we run a Intensive German language course that has been specially designed to meet the needs of exchange students preparing to study at Germany or Saarland University (UdS). The German intensive language course is thematically designed to meet the needs of students on Erasmus+ and other exchange programmes. The reading and listening comprehension texts are specially chosen to provide you with information about student life at Saarland University – both on campus and in and around Saarbrücken. The short intensive courses start at language level A2 (CEFR). Previous knowledge of the German language is mandatory, therefore beginners cannot be admitted to this course.
Please note: If you are a student at another university, you can apply for a place, but you will initially be placed on the waiting list.
Duration of courses
Tuesday, 01 October 2024 – Friday, 11 October 2024
The course takes place exclusively in an online format. Therefore, participants should make sure that they have technical equipment (PC, laptop, tablet) suitable for online modus and functioning Internet access. Unfortunately, ISZ Saar cannot provide such equipment!
Class times
Monday to Friday from 9.15 a.m. to 13.00 p.m.
and occasional afternoon sessions from 2 p.m. until 3.30 p.m.
Start of the lessons: Tuesday, 01 October 2024
Registration period
Monday, 02 September 2024, 12.00 p.m./noon – Thursday, 12 September 2024, 12.00 p.m./noon (only online!)
If you are not studying at Saarland University, you can register, but you will first get a place on the waiting list.
Placement test obligatory
A placement test must be passed online before admission to the courses. You will receive the link to the placement test after registration.
Take the test in the time period: Tuesday, 24 September 2024, 10.00 a.m. – Wednesday, 25 September 2024, 10.00 a.m.
The placement test must be taken online and must be completed by Wednesday, 25 September 2024, 10 a.m. (deadline) at the latest. Start in time!
Course fees
- 100 Euro for programme students of the UdS (Erasmus+, other exchange programms)
- 160 Euro for UdS students
- 160 Euro for all other participants
Participants who have to pay course fees will receive an email after registration with the bank account information and indication of the payment deadline.
Proficiency levels (CEFR scale)
A2 to B2/C1 (courses are therefore not suitable for absolute beginners!)
It is not possible to apply for a specific language level. The levels of the courses held always depend on the level of knowledge of the respective course participants. Placement in the groups is made according to the results of our placement test.

Credit Points
Students cannot acquire credit points (ECTS) in this course.
All participants will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course automatically, provided they have regularly and actively participated in the lessons.
