Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz
Science | Politics | Society
Every two years, the Cluster for European Research at Saarland University invites renowned guests from academia and (political) practice to talk about Europe, thus bringing (international) European studies into dialogue with politics and civil society. The aim of the Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz is twofold: on the one hand, to provide scientific findings for the Europe-related actions of political actors and, on the other hand, to sensitise civil society to European issues. The conference is aimed at academics as well as politicians at state and federal level and civil society in Saarland and the Greater Region.
Solidarität in Europa | Europäische Solidarität
3. Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz am 12. und 13. Mai 2022
Solidarity in Europe | European Solidarity
3rd Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz (12.–13. May 2022)
Solidarity is a central European value that is firmly anchored in the European Charter of Fundamental Rights. At the same time, solidarity proves to be an extremely complex and controversial concept and principle of action and is defined and implemented differently depending on the situation, perspective and understanding of solidarity. This is particularly evident in Europe-wide and global crises, in which solidarity regularly experiences a boom: As an attitude, a form of action, but also as a sign of cohesion and an expression of a sense of unity, solidarity is increasingly in focus and demanded at both the civil society and institutional levels. At the same time, however, solidarity runs the risk of being undermined, especially in times of crisis, when solidarisation goes hand in hand with exclusion or a retreat to self- and nation-state interests.
Following our lecture series "3. Europa-Diskurse" in summer 2021, we will deal with solidarity practices in Europe from an interdisciplinary perspective at the 3rd Saarbrücker Europa-Konferenz "Solidarity in Europe | European Solidarity" and discuss the development of a European understanding of solidarity, especially in times of crisis, as we have recently experienced with the "refugee crisis", the corona crisis and the climate crisis.
The programme includes lectures, panel discussions and a cultural programme with a reading by Sharon Dodua Otoo (Adas Raum).
The reading will take place on May 12 at 6 p.m. (Saarländisches Künstlerhaus Saarbrücken).
All interested parties are very welcome to attend!
Participation is free of charge. Registration for both the conference and the reading is required.
