Upcoming events

Workshop on Good Scientific Practice (25.04.2024)

This workshop enables participants to explore various aspects of research integrity in both theory and practice. In a hands-on approach, the participants will discuss research dilemmas, based on anonymised conflict scenarios handled at the German Research Ombudsman. Deliberating these example cases from multiple perspectives, the participants will not only familiarise themselves with the rules of good research practice, but also learn about prevention and where to turn to if they need help or advice in case of conflict. This will be accompanied by a comprehensive theoretical introduction to the topic and the opportunity to discuss current issues relating to artificial intelligence, open access, and predatory journals as well as conflicts that participants have personally encountered.

Speaker
Dr. Katrin Frisch. She holds a doctorate in literature and works for a Ombuds Committee for Research Integrity in Germany called the German Research Ombudsman, which was established by the German Research Foundation (DFG). She has been working there since May 2020 as a research associate in the project "Discussion Hubs to Foster Research Integrity" and has also been part of the advisory office at the German Research Ombudsman since March 2023. The aforementioned project is concerned with the creation of practicable recommendations for action (as an objective), which are intended to supplement the DFG Code and serve as a tool for ombudspersons and researchers.

German courses for PhD students eLearning course "Good Academic Practice during Doctoral Studies"

How should research results be documented? What is the right way to cite? How does one handle image sources? Answers to questions about working correctly are provided in the eLearning course "Good Academic Practice During Doctoral Studies" in German and English.

Via Saarland University's GradUS programme and thanks to the support of Goethe University Frankfurt, doctoral researchers are offered the chance to complete this eLearning course and to receive a certificate after successful completion. GRADE, the (post)graduate academy of Goethe University Frankfurt, has designed this course to be interdisciplinary and has provided a review of additional topics regarding doctoral work: how to wisely plan and organize the research project and which legal aspects, such as in labour law or copyright law, are relevant for doctoral candidates.

Five modules are available, containing comprehensive information, tests to check the knowledge gained as well as supplementary information materials. Completing all modules takes about 60 minutes. You can interrupt the course at any time, recover your previous progress or repeat modules.

Finally time to write! - Writing group

"Together you write less alone." - Whether it's a seminar paper or thesis that can't be postponed, an overdue internship report or a magazine article: In a moderated writing group with a manageable time frame, everyone works on their own project, yet together.

Participation in a writing group reduces time wastage and enables the development of a writing routine. In the long term, it can significantly increase the duration and frequency of writing activities and reduce self-doubt.

The writing group is open to students (LA, BA, MA) and doctoral students of all subjects.

It is possible to join and leave the group at any time. The meetings follow a ritualized procedure: 10 minutes to start, 100 minutes to write, 10 minutes to finish.
