Language Overviews

Arabic

Arabic is all around you – in songs, on TikTok, in TV series and in everyday life, even in the German language now, wallah. It’s spoken in around 20 countries, and we’ll teach you the Levantine variety used in the Middle East. Whether you want to understand new trends, connect with people from Syria, Lebanon or Egypt, or simply try something completely new, Arabic will take you further. The script may look unfamiliar at first, but that’s part of what makes it so exciting – and it’s much easier than you think.

Chinese (Mandarin)

Chinese culture is thousands of years old, and today nearly a billion people speak Chinese. The fact that China is 7,000 kilometres away doesn’t matter. China is booming, and who knows – perhaps your path will soon take you to Beijing, Shanghai or Hong Kong. With Chinese, you’ll definitely have the right language to get started.

Japanese

Anime without subtitles? The Language Centre can help you with that!

Of course, you can read manga in German. But it only becomes truly exciting once you’ve explored the country and its language. The land of samurai and high-tech offers countless opportunities for new experiences – from exploring the streets of Tokyo and browsing in small manga shops to trying out unusual street food snacks.

Korean

Understand K-pop? The Language Centre makes it possible!

Trendy K-pop groups like BTS or LE SSERAFIM. Gripping series such as Squid Game and Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The cool capital, Seoul, with its futuristic architecture. High-tech made in Korea. There are plenty of reasons to be interested in Korea – and no reason not to learn the language. Of course, the script and pronunciation can be a challenge, but they’re really not as difficult as you might think.

Russian

One language – many countries

Around 210 million people speak Russian. Russian-speaking countries also have a great deal to offer: a vibrant culture ranging from Tolstoy to punk music, as well as numerous universities and research institutes. And not least, their own alphabet, which is not so different from ours.

Russia remains a fascinating country, even if its current politics may make it seem otherwise. All the more reason to take an interest in the language, the country and its people – to discover a different, more progressive side of Russia. Or to explore other countries where Russian is also spoken, such as Moldova or Ukraine.

Turkish

Turkish for beginners? From zero to fluent with the Language Centre!

Turkish is much more than just a language for holidays. With around 90 million speakers, it is one of the 20 most widely spoken languages in the world – and it’s used across Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. In Berlin alone, over 200,000 people speak Turkish.

And it’s not just about communication – it’s about culture. From popular TV series and Turkish hip-hop to döner and baklava, Turkey is everywhere.

The best part? Turkish is surprisingly easy to learn. The language is spoken just as it is written – which makes getting started easy, or rather kolay
