Witamy!
Polish is the sixth largest language in the EU and is spoken by 38 million Poles and around 7 million people of Polish descent abroad. More and more young people in Europe are learning Polish and shaping their professional future around this leading country of Eastern Europe. And Polish is not difficult! 23% of the Polish vocabulary consists of internationalisms. Newspaper headlines such as “Racjonalna polityka ekonomiczna” or “Katastrofalna inflacja – bank centralny interweniuje” may already make sense to you. The latest teaching methods guide you step by step through the world of Polish inflection, and your first successes won’t take long to appear.
By learning Polish, you will discover how fruitful, if sometimes complicated, 1,000 years of German-Polish history have been; why a Polish king lived in exile in Zweibrücken in the 18th century; or why the Polish flag was seen at the Hambach Festival in 1832. Cultural and educational projects with Poland are also an important pillar of European identity-building in Saarland: 24 schools in Saarland have partnerships with schools in Poland.
Above all, Polish gives you a key skill for the European job market, as economic cooperation with Poland is increasing both nationwide and in Saarland. In 2009 Saarland signed a regional cooperation agreement with the Subcarpathian Voivodeship. Today, with its stable economic growth (4.2% in 2011), Poland has become Saarland’s ninth most important export market and ranks seventh among its suppliers. The automotive industry and mechanical engineering are the main areas of trade, while nanotechnology and biotechnology are gaining in importance. With practical Polish skills and knowledge of the country, you will strengthen your profile as an applicant in these fields and beyond.
The course structure is currently being updated. Please be patient in the meantime.
