New in the programme since the winter semester 2024/25: Slovenian

About the language

The Slovenian language, also known as Slovene, belongs to the South Slavic language family and is spoken by around two million people worldwide. Learning Slovenian can be a rewarding and enriching experience for various reasons. In addition to professional advantages, such as access to new markets or career opportunities in Central Europe and the Balkans, the language also offers entry into Slovenia’s rich culture and history.

Especially for students engaged in Slavic or Balkan studies, Slovenian can be a valuable complement. Furthermore, Slovenian plays an important role in international relations, as Slovenia is a member of the European Union, and, due to its geographical position, serves as a bridge between Central Europe and the Balkans.

Mastery of the language can therefore also be beneficial for careers in diplomacy, international organizations, or tourism. Students have the opportunity in our courses not only to learn the Slovenian language but also to gain insights into the culture and society of Slovenia.
