Students at UdS
The Language Centre offers students at Saarland University (UdS) the opportunity to acquire or improve their language skills alongside their studies. In many degree programmes, our language courses can now be credited as part of an elective or compulsory elective module. As a central institution, we are not affiliated with any one faculty and are therefore equally responsible for students of all degree programmes at UdS.
Students from UniGR, the Southwest University Alliance, HTW, T4EU
Our courses are also available to:
- students from the University of the Greater Region (UniGR) (Metz, Nancy, Luxembourg, Liège, Trier, and Kaiserslautern)
- students who belong to the South-West University Alliance (Universitätsverbund Südwest) (Saarland University, Technical University of Kaiserslautern, University of Koblenz-Landau, University of Trier)
- students of HTW (University of Applied Sciences Saarland) and
- T4EU students (please contact our secretaries’ office for details)
Students from Trier University of Applied Sciences, Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, University of Fine Arts, and University of Music are not part of the Southwest University Alliance and therefore must register as guest students if they wish to take part in courses at the Language Centre.
All course participants may enrol in up to three courses per semester. In certain cases, exceptions may apply – more information can be found in our FAQs.

Please begin by registering online as a user of the Language Centre. Make sure to note your user ID, which you will receive upon registration. You will not receive a separate confirmation email, but your user ID will be required later for course registration.

How do I register for language courses?
- Most courses (except beginner-level courses) require either the successful completion of prerequisite courses, or a placement test. Please note: The test or course must not be more than three semesters in the past. For English and French, a placement test is always required, unless you have already completed a course in that language with us.
- Course registration is usually available online beginning the first week of lectures each semester.
- Click the registration button next to the course description of the language you wish to enrol in.
You will be asked to enter your user ID (provided during registration) and the password you created.
If you have forgotten your password, you will need to contact our Service Point in order to reset it due to data protection regulations:
service(at)szsb.uni-saarland.de - After registering, a confirmation message will appear on your screen.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure to attend the first session of your course. This applies to online courses as well. Your spot in the course can only be guaranteed if you attend the first session. Otherwise, it may be given to someone on the waiting list.
If, for any reason, you are unable to attend on the first day, you must contact the course instructor in advance to confirm that you still intend to take part.
