About the language

今日は!

Japanese – What kind of language is it, really?

Surprisingly, there are quite a few Japanese words in the German vocabulary—kimono, manga, geisha (by the way, it's pronounced with three syllables: ge-i-sha), sushi (the initial "s" should be voiceless, not voiced), or harakiri (interestingly, this word doesn’t actually exist in this form in Japanese—the common term is seppuku). If you start collecting such words, you’ll quickly end up with 30 or 40 of them. And with that, you’ve already taken the first step toward learning a language that is entirely different from our Indo-European languages—and, by the way, also very different from Chinese.
