About the Language

China is becoming an increasingly important partner in academic study, research, and teaching. The most widely spoken Chinese language is Mandarin, which is currently spoken by around 1.3 billion people, the majority of whom live in the People's Republic of China and the Republic of China (Taiwan). Saarland University has recognised the growing significance of China as a cooperation and trade partner and therefore currently offers exchange programs with two Chinese universities for students from all faculties: East China Normal University (ECNU) and Jiao Tong University (SJTU), both located in Shanghai. However, more than twice as many partnerships already exist in the areas of research and doctoral exchange.
