An exhibition of comic books entitled 'Excellent! Comics in the SULB Collection' will be on display at the Saarland University and State Library (SULB) from 25 June to 24 August 2026. A highlight of the exhibition is a comic reading with comic artist Valérie Minelli (Mrs.Frollein) on Wednesday 1 July at 5 pm.

Comics have long been more than just colourful entertainment. They tell stories, distil ideas and reveal what lies between the lines. With just a few strokes, whole worlds are created – sometimes humorous, sometimes critical, sometimes personal.

The exhibition ‘Excellent! Comics in the SULB Collection’ invites visitors to discover the diversity of comic art in the Saarland. On display is a selection from the extensive collections of the Saarland University and State Library (SULB), as well as exemplary works by regional artists.

The Saarland boasts an active and internationally renowned comics scene, the vast scope of which can only be presented here in part. The exhibits on display are representative of numerous other illustrators and authors from the region. The library on the campus of Saarland University itself becomes a narrative space – a place where comics can be preserved, researched and rediscovered time and again.

Venue: Saarland University and State Library, Campus B1 1, 66123 Saarbrücken; exhibition space on the ground floor.

About Valérie Minelli:
Valérie Minelli is an illustrator and comic artist, best known for her webcomic Mrs.Frollein. Her art often deals with the difficulties of life as an artist, nostalgia and life’s little quirks. Sometimes funny, sometimes bittersweet, but always ‘relatable’ – her work reaches a global audience. This popularity has led to book deals and collaborations with other big names in the comic world, securing her a unique place in the webcomic scene. When she isn’t working on new comics, Valérie enjoys creating illustrations for various projects. For her, one of the greatest perks of life as an artist is the freedom to listen to music whilst working – a combination of her two favourite pastimes.
