Starting your studies: Tips and support for a successful first semester

In order to make it easier for you to take your first steps towards the start of the semester, the Central Student Advisory Service has put together an overview page. Here you will find important dates, information about the timetable and preliminary courses as well as orientation events. There is also a checklist that you can use to check step by step whether you have thought of everything.

Mentoring programme

During the mentoring programme of Saarland University, you receive valuable advice on studying in the first semester from experienced students. These mentors will be your personal contact persons: they will show you how to find your way around campus and answer all your questions concerning studies and student life.

The AStA Study Guide

Every year, the General Student Committee (AStA) puts together a guide containing tips and tricks on all study-related matters. This is where you find your most important contact persons and contact points, a lot of tips on how to successfully master your studies and information on activities you can do outside the classroom.

The International Study Centre Saar (ZiS), which you can find in our Welcome Center, supports students from all around the world during student orientation. We organize various joint activities and a buddy programme to help you meet other students.

Onboarding für Erstsemester: MS Teams und Moodle

Zu Beginn des Wintersemesters erhalten alle Studierenden des ersten Semesters eine Einführung in die beiden wichtigsten Tools für die digitale Lehre an der Universität des Saarlandes: Microsoft Teams und das Learning Management System Moodle. Hierfür stehen Termine in unterschiedlichen Sprachen zur Auswahl. Eine Anmeldung ist nicht erforderlich.

Dieser Kurs unterstützt und begleitet Erstsemesterstudierende bei der Organisation des Studienalltags und dem selbstregulierten Lernen. Er richtet sich an Studierende aller Studienfächer und geht auf das jeweils individuelle Studienverhalten ein.

Semesterstart für höhere Fachsemester

Um Studierende in höheren Fachsemestern beim Start in die das neue Semester zu unterstützen, bietet die Universität des Saarlandes Informationen und Veranstaltungen speziell für erfahrene Studierende an: Tipps zur Selbstorganisation, Training der digitalen Kompetenzen, Sportangebote und individuelle Beratungsformate.
