Starting your studies: Tips and support for a successful first semester
Your first semester at Saarland University
In order to make it easier for you to take your first steps towards the start of the semester, the Central Student Advisory Service has put together an overview page. Here you will find important dates, information about the timetable and preliminary courses as well as orientation events. There is also a checklist that you can use to check step by step whether you have thought of everything.
Mentoring programme
During the mentoring programme of Saarland University, you receive valuable advice on studying in the first semester from experienced students. These mentors will be your personal contact persons: they will show you how to find your way around campus and answer all your questions concerning studies and student life.
Einführungsveranstaltungen
In den Einführungsveranstaltungen (auch: Orientierungseinheiten) erhalten Studierende des ersten Semesters Informationen, die den Start ins Studium erleichtern. Hier können Sie Fragen stellen, Ihre Kommilitonen kennenlernen und sich mit den Lehrenden und der Fachschaft vertraut machen.
Onboarding for first-semester students: Digital learning platforms
At the beginning of the semester, first-year students are offered an introductory event where they can learn about important platforms and tools for their studies. This introduction covers learning platforms such as MS Teams, Moodle, and LSF. Students will also receive tips for using AI tools and other digital resources available at Saarland University. Various dates are available in different languages. Participation is possible online (without registration) or in person (with registration).
