Warning about phishing emails regarding alleged tuition fees

Fraudulent emails are currently in circulation requesting students at Saarland University to pay alleged tuition fees. The message claims that outstanding fees of €350 must be transferred at short notice, otherwise the matter will be referred to a “legal department”. The email contains a request to transfer money to an external account and to send proof of payment to an email address that does not belong to the university.

This message does not originate from Saarland University and is an attempt at phishing or fraud.

Important information:

  • Do not respond to such emails.
  • Do not click on any links or open any attachments.
  • Do not make any transfers.
  • Suspicious messages can be forwarded to the relevant university departments.

If a transfer has been made accidentally

  • Contact your bank immediately and initiate a recall.
  • Inform it-sicherheit(at)uni-saarland.de so that they can check whether other systems or accounts have been compromised. 

The incident has already been reported and appropriate measures have been taken.
