Dual-use research

Saarland University conducts research responsibly and in the service of society. This includes identifying and addressing the dual‑use potential of research and technologies. Dual use refers to the possibility that the results of scientific research may be applied for military as well as civilian purposes. Researchers are expected to be aware of these risks and to scrutinize their projects accordingly. Support is available from the university's commission on the ethics of security‑relevant research (Kommission für die Ethik sicherheitsrelevanter Forschung – KEF).
