Exceptional hardship

If you are experiencing exceptional hardship, you may make a written request to have your circumstances taken into consideration when you submit your application for admission (Härtefallregelung). If your claim for exceptional hardship is approved, you will be admitted to the first semester of the programme, irrespective of the overall grade awarded on your higher education entrance qualification or the number of previous application semesters accrued. Such requests are approved only if you are currently experiencing exceptional and severe personal hardship that makes immediate admission to a programme of study necessary. Please note that strict eligibility criteria apply and not every situation in which an individual is experiencing difficulties will meet the standard of exceptional hardship applied here. Saarland University assesses claims of exceptional hardship on the basis of the guidelines issued by the service platform Hochschulstart (hochschulstart.de). Further information can be found in the section 'Die Sonderanträge' of the document 'Ergänzende Informationen zur Bewerbung für bundesweit zulassungsbeschränkte Studiengänge' (currently available in German only), which can be downloaded here for the relevant semester. Any request for recognition of exceptional hardship must be accompanied by appropriate supporting documents.
