Deregistration

If you want to stop studying at Saarland University (possibly because you are transferring to another university or because you have completed your degree programme), you can complete the online deregistration form and submit it to the Admissions Office.

Important note:

If you have completed all of the academic assessments or examinations in your programme of study and have communicated this information to the relevant examinations office, or you are waiting to hear the results of the final assessment phase of your degree programme, or you have yet to receive your formal graduation certificate, please contact the examinations office responsible for your study programme to check whether you are permitted to deregister or whether you must remain enrolled.

As your status as an enrolled student will automatically expire on 30 September if you have not by then re-registered for the following winter semester, or on 31 March if you have not by then re-registered for the following summer semester, please contact your examinations office and specifically ask whether you need to still be enrolled on 1 October or 1 April in order to comply with the requirements of the relevant examination regulations for your programme of study.

We also recommend that you keep a copy of the following documents after you have deregistered, as you may need to refer to them in future.

  • Certificate of deregistration
  • Student enrolment record (can be downloaded in the SIM student web portal)
  • IT account notification letter from HIZ containing your UdS ID code, your master password and your student email address
  • UdS Card

Please note that you will only be able to access university systems, including Microsoft Teams, for a few days after you have deregistered.

Requesting deregistration

Please log in to the SIM student web portal using your UdS ID code and password. You will then need to complete the following steps:

  1. Click on the tile 'My applications'.
  2. Select the button 'Initiate new request/application'
  3. Under 'Type of request/application' select the option 'Request for deregistration'
  4. Enter the required information and then click on 'Submit'
  5. You will be prompted to verify that you want to submit your request. Click 'Yes' to confirm.

Please note that requests for deregistration cannot be backdated. The earliest possible date of deregistration is the date on which your request was received by the Admissions Office.

Important information for newly enrolled students:  If you are newly enrolled at Saarland University (i.e. you were not enrolled last semester) and you now wish to apply to deregister before 1 April or 1 October, please notify us in writing by sending an email to studium(at)uni-saarland.de.

Accessing your certificate of deregistration

Once your online application for deregistration has been processed, your certificate of deregistration can be downloaded from the SIM web student portal. Your certificate of deregistration will generally be available about an hour after you submitted your request. You can access your certificate of deregistration as follows:

  1. Log into the SIM student web portal.
  2. Click on the tile 'Certificates'.
  3. Select the option 'List by semester' to access your certificate of deregistration.

For more information, please refer to the accessing important study-related certificates – A guide for students.

Reimbursement of fees

If you deregister before the next semester starts (i.e. before 1 October for a winter semester or before 1 April for a summer semester), you can apply for a reimbursement of the student services fee and other charges or fees where applicable. If you deregister during a semester, it may be possible to receive a partial refund for your semester travel ticket. You must submit the relevant application to the General Student Committee (AStA). Please note that refund applications must be received within 14 days of the date of deregistration.
